Jayden Bonsu commits to the Buckeyes. The 4-star safety from New Jersey is the newest member of the 2023 class and the Ohio State staff has found their man at the safety position. After losing out on Caleb Downs, the staff set their sites on Bonsu and managed to hold off the Miami Hurricanes in their pursuit.
Bonsu definitely fits the bill of a strong safety. He isn’t afraid to stick his nose in there and make some physical tackles. He is more in the mold of a Ronnie Hickman than he is Josh Proctor, as his coverage skills, while decent, are not the highlight of his game.
He will be best suited playing closer to the line of scrimmage where he can clean up in the run game and hopefully get matched up with tight ends and running backs in the pass game.
Overall, Bonsu fills a need for the Buckeyes and he has the talent to play at a place like Ohio State. While the staff may have missed on Caleb Downs, Bonsu is more than just a consolation prize as he is what the Buckeyes are looking for at the strong safety position.
