Many Ohio State fans are concerned about the state of class of 2023 recruiting but make no mistake, the reports of the demise of Ohio State recruiting are greatly exaggerated.
The Buckeyes picked up a big commitment for the class of 2025 on Friday night and went to a familiar place to land him, the greater Atlanta area. Jontae Gilbert is a 6-foot-1, 175-pounder from Frederick Douglass high school in Atlanta and despite being a young guy, already was well on his way to picking up double-digit offers.
Recruiting timelines have sped up and Gilbert knew where he wanted to go and told the Buckeyes that he was in and is now the first player in the class for Ryan Day and Ohio State.
Being a member of the class of 2025, Gilbert does not have a star rating in most services but it is safe to say that he will be highly-rated once his day comes.
The Buckeyes only offered Gilbert three weeks ago and it did not take long to come to a decision. But now there is a lot of time for the Buckeyes to hold on to this commitment with several years to go until his signing period. Ohio State will have to play defense now on this one but for now, celebration is in order with Gilbert in the fold.
