Ohio State defensive end Jacolbe Cowan announced last week that he was entering the transfer portal, and on Tuesday he made his destination known. He is transferring to North Carolina.
Cowan, who is a North Carolina native, becomes the second Buckeye this month to transfer to UNC. He joins defensive back Lejond Cavazos, who announced his transfer to North Carolina on Monday.
A redshirt sophomore, Cowan will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Cowan was a four-star defensive lineman from the 2020 recruiting class. He missed his freshman season with an injury. Last year went a little better for Cowan as he saw action in seven games, but never saw more than the 13 snaps he received against Maryland.
He finished last season with three tackles.
This spring he was part of a deep defensive line that featured both veterans and young players who had made moves up the depth chart. The depth was going to make playing time difficult once again for Cowan.
Cowan is the sixth member of Ohio State’s 2020 recruiting class to enter the transfer portal.
