Ohio State landed a surprise commitment on Sunday evening from Seffner (Fla.) Armwood safety Kye Stokes. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound prospect was offered by the Buckeyes just days ago, but quickly contemplated his future upon receiving the offer and decided he didn’t need to wait to jump on it.
A three-star prospect, Stokes has been a fast-rising name in the recruiting world recently. Offers from Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, and others have all come through in recent weeks.
Defensive back has been a huge need for Ohio State in this 2022 class, but with early commitments from a couple of cornerback prospects in Jaheim Singletary and Jyaire Brown. A lot of the emphasis more recently has been on the safety position. Much of the attention has been on prospects like Xavier Nwankpa, Zion Branch, and Kamari Ramsey, but things can move very quickly in recruiting and it took just six days from being offered for Stokes to become the first safety commitment for Ohio State’s 2022 recruiting efforts.
