Top 100 safety prospect Xavier Nwankpa has been a top target for the Buckeyes since very early on in the 2022 recruiting cycle. On Saturday afternoon, Ohio State survived another list cut for the big-time defender as Nwankpa trimmed his list from seven to three. The Buckeyes join Notre Dame and Iowa as finalists for the four-star prospect and a player that is expected to make it back to Columbus at the end of the month.
Nwankpa made official visits to both Ohio State and Notre Dame back in June and has his official visit to Iowa scheduled for next weekend. He previously told BuckeyeScoop.com that he would return to Ohio State for an unofficial visit in late October when the Buckeyes host Penn State and that visit is still expected to take place.
While Ohio State’s 2022 class is loaded with defensive backs, the Buckeyes are still prioritizing a couple of safety prospects in Nwankpa and Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman standout Zion Branch. The Buckeyes have been talking to Nwankpa about playing the bullet position in their defense.
Nwankpa is expected to make a decision at some point during the month of December and is slated to play in the All-American Bowl in January.
