CJ Stroud Opens With Second-Best Odds To Win 2022 Heisman

If everything goes as expected, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young will walk away as only the second two-time Heisman Trophy winner next year, joining former Ohio State Buckeye Archie Griffin who won the award in 1974 and 1975.

Young has opened up as the initial favorite to win next year’s award as college football’s most outstanding player. has made Young a 3-1 favorite for 2022. Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud has the second-best odds at 5-1.

Stroud finished fourth in this year’s award voting behind Bryce Young, Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, and Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett.

Interestingly, new South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler has the third-best odds at 7-1 despite being benched last season at Oklahoma for freshman Caleb Williams. Williams, coincidentally, is fourth on the list at 12-1 odds.

The first non-quarterback on the list is Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker with 14-1 odds. Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson is right behind him at 16-1 odds.

Former Ohio State quarterback and current Texas Longhorn Quinn Ewers opens with 28-1 odds, but you can expect him to rise up the ranks as more and more money gets put on him.

The first defensive player listed is Alabama linebacker/edge rusher Will Anderson at 25-1. He finished fifth in the 2021 Heisman voting but did not earn an invite to New York as a finalist. Expect there to be backlash for that slight next year as voters and media members try to right a wrong that they themselves committed.

A pair of Michigan players are listed as well. Running back Blake Corum is a 40-1 bet, as is quarterback Cade McNamara. McNamara is probably also a 50-50 bet to actually win the job again next year over JJ McCarthy.

One notable omission is OSU receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has posted 80 receptions, 1,259 yards, and 6 touchdowns this season. He will be losing his running mates for next year, as Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson are off to the NFL after this season. Smith-Njigba could be in for a very big season next year for the Buckeyes.
