It seemed inevitable that Ohio State would ultimately throw its hat in the ring for class of 2023 Pickerington (Ohio) Central athlete Alex ‘Sonny’ Styles.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound safety/athlete was in line to be a breakout star as a freshman last season for the Tigers. But a summer injury suffered on the basketball floor ended that freshman football season before it ever began.
Then, after being a standout on the varsity basketball team as a freshman, Styles lost any opportunity to work out for the Ohio State coaching staff this off-season with both the Spring Evaluation Period and the college camp circuit being wiped out due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
So on Sunday, Styles took the field for the first time in his high school career and a year later than anticipated.
And he dominated.
The athletic sophomore nabbed an interception and then blocked a punt and scooped it up for a touchdown as Central rolled to a rivalry win over Pickerington North in a game that was nationally televised...
