Freshman guard Bryce McGowens scored a team-high 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting in leading Nebraska (9-21, 3-16) to a surprising 78-70 win over No. 23 Ohio State (18-9, 11-7) Tuesday night in Columbus. It was the Huskers’ first win over a ranked opponent in their last 24 attempts.

The loss for the Buckeyes comes just two days after a 15-point loss at Maryland, who currently sports a 6-12 record in conference play. Ohio State drops into a tie for fourth place in the Big Ten with Iowa, but the Hawkeyes own the tiebreaker thanks to OSU’s 13-point loss to Iowa in Columbus a couple of weeks ago.

Nebraska opened the game playing well and closed it out the same way. The Huskers shot 15-of-27 from the field in the first half (.556) and 6-of-12 from three-point territory. They led Ohio State 43-39 at the half. The Buckeyes managed to shoot just 13-of-32 (.406) over the game’s first 20 minutes.

Things didn’t get any better in the second half for Ohio State. In fact, they got worse...
