    The Buckeyes have owned the B1G Freshman of the Week award throughout the 2021 football season. This past week was no different as quarterback Kyle McCord was honored by the conference as part of Ohio State’s 59-7 win over Akron on Saturday night at Ohio Stadium.

    McCord got his first career start in relief of CJ Stroud and after a slow first series, made the most of it with a 13-18 passing night that saw him throw for a pair of touchdowns and 319 yards.

    The 319-yard passing night put McCord in the top spot in Ohio State history for a first-time starter, surpassing the 313 yards that Dwayne Haskins threw for against Oregon State just a few short years ago in 2018.

    McCord is only the 4th Ohio State true freshman to start at quarterback in program history, a significant feat in its own right. It is to be expected when a team has four young quarterbacks going into the season.
