PITTSBURGH – The music came to a screeching stop for the Buckeyes in the “Big Dance” with a 10-point loss to Villanova in the South Regional of the NCAA Tournament in the second round.
That second round has been an insurmountable hurdle for the Buckeyes as of late, with the last appearance in the Sweet 16 almost dating back a decade.
The 2021-22 season saw the Buckeyes knock off a No. 1 Duke team in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, go on the road to win conference games against Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota and be in the mix to win a Big Ten regular season title up until the final two weeks of the season.
On the other hand, previous editions of the Buckeyes have had some of the highest of highs along the way only to see a stinker in the tournament to end the season on the sourest of notes.
This year it was Villanova. It has been Houston and Gonzaga in previous years. All have been higher ranked teams than the Buckeyes, but nobody is counting.
