    We continue through award watch list season and now focus on the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back.

    There are few backs that just burst onto the scene the way that Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson did but he is no secret now, he is front and center as one of the players to watch on a list of 73 FBS players.

    Now, with 130 schools and 73 backs listed, it does kind of feel like almost everyone made the list, but it is not about where you start rather where you finish. Just ask Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker III, who won the award in 2021. Henderson made it all the way to the list of semifinalists last season but did not make the final cut when a group of three were named finalists with Walker edging out Breece Hall (Iowa State) and Tyler Badie (Missouri).

    The award is named after three-time All-American Doak Walker, a running back at SMU from 1945-1949 who would go on to play for the Detroit Lions for the following five seasons. The Doak...
