Ohio State hung with Alabama for close to two quarters, but the Tide ultimately pulled away for a 52-24 win over the Buckeyes in the 2021 National Championship Game.

Buckeye Scoop beat reporter Tony Gerdeman joins host Tom Orr to recap the game, and where things started to go wrong. From the absence of defensive line standouts Tommy Togiai and Tyreke Smith to an early injury to Trey Sermon, a lot of things went against Ohio State.

But does that one loss overshadow everything else this team accomplished this season? Or is a Big Ten championship and a College Football Playoff win over Clemson enough to give this year a thumbs up?

Yes it was successful. We also got lucky we didn’t play anyone great until the last game. If we are honest we probably lose to any offense with a pulse this season. Hard to lose 2 first round corners, multi year starter at safety, and lose a corner to injury and still make the playoffs.

Yes, absolutely. Defense was smoke and mirrors all year. Our passing D ranked 122/127 for a reason, we were awful.
Fields injury and losing Trey took away any hope of a balanced attack, we were toast after the second play last night.
Beating Clemson and their generational QB made the season a success.
Perfection? No, but that is reserved for one team a year.

Absolutely a success. Got to the NC, got Team Up North to go into witness protection, and beat down Clemson along the way.
But no sugarcoating the coaching failure in the NC. Day surrendered at the end of the 1st half and Coombs defensive game plan was embarrassing.

Yes. We may never understand or fully appreciate all the adversity this team had to navigate. A week ago, after clubbing Clemson, us fans were as pumped as we have been in a long time.

Today, we're disappointed. Imagine how the staff and players feel. They had the navigate the bullshit this season. We only got to watch and critique. Proud of this team. Go Bucks.

Absolutely a success. We got to play the season and made it to the championship only to lose to the best offense I’ve ever seen and the most dominant wr I’ve seen. Oh, and we got our revenge on Clemson and Michigan still sucks. Go bucks! Let’s run it back next season.
