The Ohio State Men’s Basketball team may be ready to head to the Bahamas to kick off a little international exhibition action but not before landing a big player that should help shape the near future of this team.
Devin Royal is staying home after selecting the Buckeyes over Michigan State and Alabama on Wednesday afternoon during a press conference at his high school.
The four-star forward made his intentions known at Pickerington Central high school and now give the Buckeyes a solid three-man class for 2023 joining Austin Parks and George Washington III.
The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 19.8 points per game with 8.2 rebounds as well as 1.6 assists over the course of his junior season, a year where Pick Central won the Division I state championship in Ohio.
“(Ohio State) just recruits really hard, showing a lot of love,” Royal said. “Players showing me love and reaching out, alumni reaching out and showing love, that was my main point of it.”
Even with all of that, it was still a difficult decision when it came down to it, you can only make one program happy and have to tell everyone else no.
“I am blessed with all the coaches that were recruiting me. A lot of schools and a lot of great programs,” Royal said.
Royal will now be able to focus on his senior season without having recruiting hanging over his head with a decision being made as school gets closer to starting in the state of Ohio.
“I feel a lot (of weight) off of my shoulders,” Royal joked. “It feels great, feel relieved, go into my senior season and play the game that I love.”
Ohio State’s class could add another player later this week as forward Scotty Middleton is set to announce his decision over the weekend. We will be following along closely on that one as well.
