HIGH POINT, NC — Everyone in the country wants five-star defensive tackles. In today’s game, every team can use a player that is not only a run stuffer but also an interior pass rusher, and that is why every team covets five-star defensive tackle Travis Shaw. Ohio State in particular needs stout and versatile three techniques like Shaw to make their defense work best.
Last week, Buckeye Scoop made the drive down to High Point Central High School to watch Shaw’s Grimsley High School team take on the High Point Central Bison. Long story short, Grimsley dominated High Point Central on both sides of the ball that night and Shaw was a big reason why defensively. The athleticism, burst, and strength that he provides are rare for a 6-foot-6, 320-pound prospect like Shaw. After dominating the trenches we caught up with Shaw for an interview where we talked about a variety of topics.
Aside from recruiting, Shaw discussed playing his junior season in the spring, taking on a leadership role, and what he wants to continue working on. When it came to his recruitment he spoke glowingly about Ohio State, defensive line coach Larry Johnson, and admitted he could see himself in Columbus.
“I gotta go check out Coach Day and Coach Larry Johnson,” said Shaw about a visit, he added. “Like I said they have some real good coaches, they’ve got their program rollin’, so I definitely gotta get up there.”

As we said above, Shaw has a very rare blend of size, speed, and strength that makes him an easy five-star. Those traits are evident in the highlights below and it makes it easy to see why colleges are coming so hard after Shaw.
