Four-Star Offensive Lineman George Fitzpatrick Commits to Ohio State

Despite Ohio State’s 2022 class being ranked number one in the country, the Buckeyes haven’t done much in the trenches yet when it comes to offensive and defensive line recruiting. Lakota West standout offensive tackle Tegra Tshabola was the lone lineman committed to the Buckeyes coming into today. However, the next offensive line domino has fallen in the form of a commitment from George Fitzpatrick out of Cherry Creek (CO) High School.

The 6-foot-6 and 285-pound offensive tackle prospect was someone who did not get a ton of attention leading up to his visit in June and really even after it. Nevertheless, Fitzpatrick is someone that the Ohio State coaching staff loved and worked hard to get into this class.

As for how Fitzpatrick and the Buckeyes got to this point, it all started with an offer from Ohio State last August after a conversation with OSU running backs coach Tony Alford, who recruits Colorado. That offer was issued during the COVID-19 pandemic, so it became a wait-and-see situation for Fitzpatrick. So when June rolled around he scheduled all five of his official visits. The first weekend he was in Columbus, second Ann Arbor, third Norman, and fourth Eugene with a mid-week visit to Gainesville sandwiched in between trips to Michigan and Oklahoma.

In the end though, none of the last four visits could overcome the bar that Ohio State and Ryan Day set that first weekend in June. Fitzpatrick not only gives the Buckeyes their second offensive line commitment but also their first who will play tackle at the next level. With long arms, good feet, and a prototypical frame, it is easy to see why he was so highly coveted by not only Ohio State but nearly 30 other programs.

At times, Ohio State offensive line coach Greg Studrawa has caught some flack for his efforts on the recruiting trail but he deserves some credit here. With an assist from Tony Alford, he pulled one of the top offensive linemen from out west and beat some top-tier programs in the process.
