Ohio State’s regular season is complete and now eyes turn to “offseason moves” even with a bowl game still looking for the Buckeyes. Ohio State quarterback Jack Miller is one of those first offseason moves as he has entered the transfer portal.
The former four-star quarterback from the class of 2020 spent two years in the Ohio State program before committing to the Buckeyes. The Scottsdale (Ariz.) product played in four games for the Buckeyes this season and was 7-14 throwing the ball for 101 yards. Miller also attempted five rushes but with sack yardage was credited with a season total of minus-one yard, largely coming in for mop-up duty.
Miller saw a crowded quarterback room that had CJ Stroud on top as the starter for the 2021 season with Kyle McCord ahead of him coming out of fall camp. Quinn Ewers surprise decision to enroll early at Ohio State put another body in the room and gave the Buckeyes four scholarship quarterbacks for the 2021 season and there never was a question IF someone was going to transfer, just WHO and HOW MANY?
The Buckeyes did not bring Miller to Michigan on Saturday as he was listed on the unavailable list for the game and had just come off of a suspension after he was accused of OVI, a charge that was pled down in court.
Ryan Day’s Buckeyes do not have a quarterback committed in the class of 2022 but are pursuing Devin Brown, a former USC commit that took an official visit for the Michigan State game. With early signing day coming in just a couple of weeks, it will be something to watch as we see how the Buckeyes handle any other attrition in the quarterback room and if the Buckeyes may have to go to the transfer portal if numbers get too thin at the position.
Miller held more than a dozen offers coming out of high school before committing to the Buckeyes and some think he may head back out west to be closer to home while other see a path to Miller moving on to Ole Miss with the departure of Matt Corral. But a lot of that depends on the status of Lane Kiffin, as he is one of the hot names in the coaching carousel.
