Recruiting

John Walker Stands Out Amongst The Crowd

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Southern Swing makes its way into Florida and we are in the central part of the state at Osceola high school with defensive lineman John Walker.

The 6-foot-3, 305-pound interior lineman has close to three dozen reported offers including the Buckeyes and is firmly in four-star territory when it comes to his ranking.

Ohio State certainly is a team that can claim to be at/near the top of this recruitment even if Walker is not ready to tip his hand. He had cut things down to a top schools list but backed away from that as the interest kept growing.

Even with that, Walker has set his list of schools that he wants to take official visits to, and the Buckeyes have made that list.

“It is going to be Ohio State, UCF, Florida, USC and Michigan,” Walker said.

Walker has a lot of great options, but what is going to make one school into the school for him?

“The area, the place, the bond with the coaches, the bond with the players,” Walker said. “(Plus) the things they do as coaches and how they coach.”

Schools have talked to Walker about playing various positions on the interior defensive line, and whether it be as a three-tech, a one-tech or anything else, it doesn’t matter to Walker as long as he is able to get on the field and help contribute to his team.

“Whatever helps the team, I will go and do,” Walker said. “Whatever I am asked to do.”

Ohio State has seen a lot of change on the defensive side of the ball with its coaching staff, but one constant has been Larry Johnson and Walker recognizes his position at the top of the national defensive line coaches.

“Knowing that he is one of the best defensive line coaches in college, it is pretty cool to talk to him,” Walker said. “He is breaking down his knowledge of the game and just getting to know him as a person… yeah.”

Even with five visits scheduled in June, Walker admits that he could commit really at any point between now and National Signing Day and does not have a set date in mind before the season to be done with this, or else.

So, this is one that you will have to keep an eye on as those June visits will be critical and something could move on this sometime after that. Or not.
