Kayin Lee Follows Up Official Visit With Buckeyes Pledge

The Buckeyes started the week off the same way last week did with a major commitment at a position of need with the verbal pledge of four-star Kayin Lee. The 5-foot-11, 185 pounder from suburban Atlanta took his official visit to Ohio State over the weekend and apparently liked what he heard.

Lee chose the Buckeyes from 30-plus offers and was a one-time commitment to the home state team of UGA before backing off of that pledge and taking a wider look. Georgia’s loss certainly is Ohio State’s gain with the addition of the Cedar Grove product, a program that is constantly producing college-ready talent.

With changes on the Ohio State defensive coaching staff, there was a need to get Lee refamiliarized with the Buckeyes and new corners coach Tim Walton picked up the ball and ran with it as the Buckeyes were considered one of the favorites to land Lee once the reintroductions were made.

Cedar Grove high school produced former Ohio State defensive lineman Antwuan Jackson, who ended up at Ohio State after starting his collegiate career at Auburn. It also was known for a fan-favorite recruit that ended up elsewhere with 2022 defensive lineman Christen Miller.

Before picking the Buckeyes, Lee took official visits to Nebraska and Oregon as it seemed that distance was of no consequence to the talented four-star, but the Buckeyes are the closest of the three presumed finalists, a short nine-hour car ride to Atlanta or a short flight.

In 2021, Lee had seven interceptions including two in the state title game. Lee would also be named to the second team of the MaxPreps Junior All-American team.

He is the second cornerback commit for the Buckeyes in this class, joining Dijon Johnson. This also gives the Buckeyes four defensive back commits with the addition of safeties Malik Hartford and Cedrick Hawkins. The Buckeyes could be adding to this number later this week with Jermaine Mathews of Cincinnati (Winton Woods) set to make a Friday announcement.

We will have more on this big news including what it means for the Buckeyes in terms of the player that they are landing as well as the big picture in terms of the recruiting numbers as Ohio State’s final official visit weekend of June already starting to pay off.
