COLUMBUS – It was a hot one at Ohio State’s football camp on Wednesday afternoon but that didn’t slow down Kristopher Jones from putting in an effort that was offer-worthy as the Mountain View high school linebacker from Stafford (Va.) left camps with a coveted Ohio State offer.
Jones has put on some weight since the last time that his profile was updated through the services and now checks in at 6-foot-2, 224 pounds and schools are taking notice. The Ohio State offer gets Jones over the 20-offer mark as schools like Ohio State, Penn State, Virginia, and Virginia Tech are among a group of schools standing out to Jones.
We had a chance to talk to him before Jim Knowles and the Buckeyes had a chance to offer, but we did have a chance to ask him what an offer would mean and if it would change things up in his recruitment as a member of the class of 2024.
“It would change it a lot,” Jones said after the camp. “This is a prestigious school, so it would most definitely change it a lot.”
This was not Jones’ first visit to Ohio State with a late-April visit already in the books. Jones admitted that he did not have an opportunity to spend time with Jim Knowles who was in Las Vegas for the NFL Draft, but this trip was a great chance to see what makes the new Ohio State Defensive Coordinator tick.
Obviously, football is important, but Jones really appreciates that Ohio State makes an effort to get to know recruits and players just beyond the game.
“I like how they focus on you on the field but also get you ready for life off the field,” Jones added.
There will be some time before Jones has to make any sort of a decision with more than a year until his signing day, but this offer gives him plenty to think about and it will take more than a minute to wipe the smile off of his face for picking this one up.
Jones has been busy on the camp circuit but this will be his final camp of the summer. He plans on still taking some visits but to date, it has been about as successful of a summer as one could hope for.
