There are few questions about the Ohio State offense going into the 2022 season with the Buckeyes brining one of the best offenses in the history of college football to the table with the likes of CJ Stroud, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and TreVeyon Henderson.
The questions are around the Ohio State defense and how big of a step they are going to take after a very atypical 2021 season.
Let’s not forget that this is not the only time that the defense has had a once-in-a-generation type of step back. We only have to go back a few short years to the 2018 season and see a defense that couldn’t answer the bell for the Buckeyes and while that team went 13-1, won a Big Ten Title and even beat Michigan, it still came up short when it came to the College Football Playoff and had to end the year in the Rose Bowl.
Jim Knowles is the new head coach of the defense for the 2022 season and just as Jeff Hafley was brought in for 2019, what kind of expectations can we have for the defense? How big were the differences in numbers from 2018 to 2019 and can we even try to extrapolate any of that went looking at 2021 to 2022?
That and more in the Morning Scoop.
