Buckeyes Make Big Move For Four-Star Darron Reed After First Visit

It was a massive recruiting weekend for Ohio State, as the program hosted top-ranked players from all over the country.

One of the prospects to make the trip to Columbus was Columbus (GA) Carver 2023 defensive lineman Darron Reed. The 6-foot-5, 260-pounder holds offers from some of the best programs in America, including Ohio State, and was not disappointed in getting his first look at the Buckeyes.

“It was great,” Reed told Buckeye Scoop. “I went up with my coach. We got to tour the campus, talk some ball with the coaches, and watch their practice. It was really crazy for that many people to come and watch a practice. It was very intense out there.”

The highlight of the visit was spending time with the coaching staff, though.

“Coach Johnson,” Reed replied when asked about what stood out from his visit, also mentioning he spoke with Ryan Day and Jim Knowles, among others, as well. “They were just telling me and showing me all the great things they can do for me.”

After this trip, where do the Buckeyes stand for Reed in his recruitment?

“They’re definitely at the top of my list,” he said without hesitation. “They’re really the only ones up there right now.”

Despite the big move made by the Buckeyes, Reed says he wasn’t thinking about committing. He’s going to take a little more time with the process and make a decision after some visits this summer.

“No, it’s too early,” Reed responded when asked about if he was tempted to commit. “It will be sometime before the season. Probably later in the summer.”

Later this month Reed will go to Tennessee (April 9), Miami (April 11), and LSU (April 26). He says he’ll make an official visit to Ohio State sometime this summer, but isn’t sure what other schools will get one yet. He does know what he’s looking for in his future home, though.

“I want somewhere that feels like home,” he shared. “A good relationship with the coaches, that’s about it.”
