The month of June will go a long way toward determining how defensive line recruiting is going to shake out for Ohio State’s 2022 recruiting class. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson is hard at work chasing some of the nation’s top pass rushers. Arlington (Texas) Martin product Ernest ‘RJ’ Cooper IV is among those targets and the four-star prospect has his visit schedule put together for the month of June.
Cooper will visit Ohio State the weekend of June 11th and he’ll also see three of his other top schools in the coming weeks.
“That is correct,” Ernest Cooper III, father of the big-time edge rusher told BuckeyeScoop.com, confirming the Ohio State visit. “It is being arranged by coach Johnson and Erin Dunston (director of on-campus recruiting).”
“Texas A&M, Ohio State, Stanford, and Notre Dame in that visit order,” he added, citing that those visits would be made on the four weekends in June.
This will be Cooper’s first time in Columbus and Larry Johnson has made a good impression on the family going into the visit.
“Larry Johnson has a track record of developing high end quarterback hunters,” he stated. “In my conversations with him, he comes across as a very genuine person. He has been in discussions with RJ and I know my son has a lot of respect for him.”
“It will be great to meet coach Johnson, coach Day and the rest of the staff and see the campus in person,” he added.
Cooper is one of several high-profile Texas products that the Buckeyes are expected to host in June. Ohio State will of course welcome commits Caleb Burton and Quinn Ewers, but are also expecting to get visits from Duncanville defensive end Omari Abor and his teammate, offensive lineman Jaylen Early. Additionally, the Buckeyes are set to host four-star cornerback Austin Jordan and Top 100 offensive lineman Kam Dewberry.
