Somewhat of a surprise visitor for Tuesday’s camp session this week was 2023 linebacker/defensive end Tausili Akana. The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder made the trip to Columbus all the way from Kahuku, Hawaii, and make no mistake about it—this was a business trip with one purpose: to land an offer from Ohio State.
Akana was successful in that mission, putting on an impressive performance in front of the coaching staff, announcing the news that he landed a scholarship from the Buckeyes on Wednesday morning.
“It felt good,” Akana told Buckeye Scoop after learning he got a scholarship. “I have been talking with the coaching staff for a while now. The program speaks for itself. They are a very successful program.”
In addition to the camp session, Akana also got the full tour and visit experience while in town.
“I got to do an unofficial campus visit,” he shared. “I met with the coaches, went over the defense with them, and also got to camp with them. I liked Ohio State a lot. I really enjoyed myself.”
While he projects as an EDGE on the next level, he spent most of his time with Al Washington.
“I spent the most time with Coach Al Washington,” Akana explained. “He sees me playing different positions on the field. He sees me playing both linebacker and defensive end.”
Finally, Akana discussed when he’ll make a college decision and what he’s looking for in a school.
“I’ll commit before my senior year,” he said. “It just needs to be a good fit for my family and I.”
