While a lot of the hype was wearing off from a big official visit weekend and the hype was just starting for consecutive one-day camps, Ohio State hosted a number of big time unofficial visitors on Monday June 7.
One of the players in attendance was 2022 4-star safety Sherrod Covil of Oscar Smith in Chesapeake, Virginia. The 6-foot, 185-pounder landed an offer from Ohio State back on April 8, and made his first trip to Columbus this week.
“It went great,” Covil told Buckeye Scoop. “I’m trying to figure out a date for an official visit now. I’ll try to do that this month if my parents can make it work with their schedules.”
Covil spent time with three important OSU coaches while on campus who had a direct message for him.
“I spent time with Coach Day, Coach Barnes, and Coach Coombs,” he shared. “They told me its hard work at Ohio State. The best of the best go there. Nothing is guaranteed except for a great education and a real chance to win a national title.”
Covil holds offers from Clemson, Notre Dame, Miami (FL), Penn State, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, and many others. How do the Buckeyes stack up following this trip?
“If I had a top five, they’d easily be in it,” he responded when asked.
Covil will take other visits to UNC, Notre Dame, and Clemson for sure so far. He’s eyeing a decision after his officials are done.
“After I visit those three schools and decide on other official visits, I’ll set a date,” he said.
