The Ohio State Buckeyes have kicked off their 2021 season, getting the CJ Stroud era off to a good start with a road win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. While it wasn’t a perfect performance, there were far more positives than negatives for a team that entered the season with a lot of question marks and concerns. Chip Minnich and I break down the game at Minnesota which could have been a much easier win if two plays had broken differently, with a fourth down whiff on defense and a roughing the passer penalty allowing P.J. Fleck’s pesky Gophers to hang around and, more importantly, believe.
We looked back to check our score predictions and see how our Minnesota picks to click performed. It was a bit of a mixed bag, as it turns out. Then we went over this week’s champions and players of the game.
Our guest this week was Hythloday from the Addicted to Quack blog. He joined us to get everyone ready for Ohio State’s big match-up this Saturday at noon against the Oregon Ducks. Hythloday turned out to be the right guy to talk to, since he spends his spare time watching game film and tracking data for every Pac-12 team. Whatever you need to know about the Ducks, Hythloday tells you in this podcast and we thank him for his time this week. Who knows? If things break right for both the Buckeyes and Ducks, we may end up talking to him again down the line at the end of 2021.
Chip and I did our usual walk through the rest of the Big Ten results from this past weekend. The B1G East flexed on the West (mostly…come on, Indiana! What are you even doing?) and Bert’s goodwill from the Nebraska win evaporated like a puddle of water in the Fighting Illini’s wind tunnel of a stadium. A couple of key players were lost for the season and I’m feeling better about my Sparty prediction (and my Northwestern prediction) than I was before, and worse about my Wisconsin prediction, but there’s a lot of football left to be played.
Finally, we get to our picks to click, key match-ups, and score predictions for Ohio State vs. Oregon on Big
Noon Nude Saturday. Good teams win. Great teams cover. Now it’s time to truly find out if Ohio State is either of those things.
Enjoy this week’s show. Thanks for listening.
