Silver Bullets Podcast — Penn State Rewind & Husker Preview

No animal is more dangerous than one who is wounded and fighting for survival and so it was for the Penn State Nittany Lions when they arrived at Ohio Stadium on the back of consecutive losses to Iowa and Illinois. The Lions played like cornered beasts and the Buckeyes helped them with lots of pre-snap penalties and suspect red zone play calling. Ohio State was still able to do enough to win by two scores. Chip Minnich and I discuss all the key talking points from the game, including more adventures in targeting — this time featuring Steele Chambers.

We talk about the Buckeyes who graded out as champions, why the defense shouldn’t get a pass just because the offense had some struggles, and how we did with our score predictions and our picks to click.

We’re joined this week by Greg Smith, the recruiting analyst over at Hail Varsity, who stopped by to give us the 4-1-1 on this week’s Ohio State opponents, the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Greg told us why the Huskers’ offense is struggling in the red zone and the Nebraska defense is flourishing there, and how Scott Frost’s system at Nebraska differs from what he was doing at UCF. Big thanks to Greg for joining us.

Chip and I examine this past weekend’s results around the Big Ten, including the big game in East Lansing, the suddenly resurgent Wisconsin Badgers, another one-score loss by Nebraska, and how Minnesota is in the driver’s seat in the B1G West. A lot could happen in the West in the coming weeks, but there could still be a lot of craziness in the East as well.

Finally, we share our predictions and make our picks to click for Ohio State’s trip to Lincoln on Saturday.
