Silver Bullets Podcast — Pro Day, Justin Fields, and Position Swaps

Spring football is in full swing and we are hurtling improbably toward the 2021 Ohio State Spring Game. These are vital days for the Buckeyes looking to win a starting spot or move up on the depth chart, particularly in positions that are up for grabs.

With the spring also comes Ohio State’s pro day, and that’s when guys can make or lose a lot of money or put themselves into better position to be drafted. Justin Fields made all the throws on his pro day and we discussed where he figures to be taken among the top quarterbacks in the draft. We also touched on the irresponsible comments by Dan Orlovsky with regard to Fields’ work ethic and “desire to be great.” We’ve seen no issues on that front and the fact that guys like Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson were willing to come out and lend a hand on pro day speaks volumes about that very subject.

After the pro day talk, we discussed some of the key injuries that have hit the Buckeyes this spring and the opportunities those injuries will provide for other players. There were some position changes to discuss as well and we weighed in with our thoughts on Gee Scott as a tight end and Demario McCall as a defensive back. We’re kind of excited at the prospect of what McCall can do in the open field if he picks off a pass.

It’s black stripe season and we had a bit of a surprise with the first one to come off this spring. Of course, we recorded Monday night so there have been a couple more since this was recorded, because that’s the way these things go.

Finally, we reflect on the death of former Ohio State safety Mike Sensibaugh. He’s a guy who played a long time ago but he left quite a legacy as a Buckeye and it’s important to remember his accomplishments and pass those down to younger folks who never got to see him play.
