Top Target Carnell Tate Talks Two-Day Visit To Ohio State

One of the most important prospects for Ohio State out of the hundreds that have been on campus the last two days is Chicago-native and IMG Academy 2023 wide receiver Carnell Tate.

Tate just made a two-day visit to Columbus to check out campus, meet the coaches in person, and work with potential position coach Brian Hartline. Following his trip he broke down his time with the Buckeyes.

“The visit was everything, I loved it a lot,” he told Buckeye Scoop. “I learned a lot and it was the biggest campus I’ve seen so far. On Tuesday, I was able to see the Woody Hayes facility. I then worked out with Coach Hartline, Coach Bailey, and Coach Fessler. On Wednesday, I went and got a tour of the campus and the stadium.”

Tate shared a little more about his workout with Hartline.

“The workout was great,” he responded when asked. “Coach Hartline taught me a lot in such a short time—things I’ve never learned before. It was great being able to soak in all of that knowledge from the greatest wide receiver coach out there.”

Tate not only spent time with Brian Hartline, he got the attention of the full Ohio State staff and administration.

“I spoke to everyone,” he shared. “From the academic side to the athletic side. Coach Day told me that I’m his guy and he would like me to start this class off for them like CJ (Hicks) did in 2022. Coach Hartline told me I am the guy they want and that I was the best receiver in my class. He gets pumped up working with guys he wants to coach. I also spoke to Coach Mick(ey Marotti) and he told me if I don’t want to be pushed then don’t come to Ohio State, but if I do then this is the place for me. Coach Bailey tells me all the time to not talk about it, be about it. He wants to get the best players from Chicago in back to back years (Kaleb Brown in 2022).”

Despite having a great visit, Tate maintains that his “recruitment is wide, wide open”. He doesn’t have a decision timeline set, but does know what he’s looking for in his future home.

“A decision can be made at any time,” he stated. “Whenever my family thinks it’s best and we’re ready.

“I’m looking at being able to see the field early, who can get me to the next level, and ultimately a place that feels like a second home.”
