COLUMBUS – Ohio State’s football camps got underway on Wednesday and one of the more intriguing stories of the AM session was that of class of 2026 defensive lineman Tyler Atkinson from Grayson high school in Georgia.
The 8th grader already holds 20 offers including one from Ohio State and many people were interested to see if those offers were based on hype or reality.
After a couple of hours of work, it is reality. Atkinson left people impressed and after the camp we had to find out what drives him and who he looks up to.
And Ohio State has a key advantage with that, as Chase Young has more than captured Atkinson’s interest.
“Chase Young is a guy that I really look up to,” Atkinson said. “He does everything. He can drop back in coverage, he can rush the passer very well. So, me getting offered at (the school) that Chase Young played for is very good.”
Plenty of young players have favorite players but few study their role model the way that Atkinson does.
“I watch Chase Young almost every day,” Atkinson added.
Ohio State fans have favorite games from Young but there is not one that really sticks out to Atkinson as he is watching Young through a different lens than the average fan.
“He always dominated, he is a dominant player,” Atkinson said. “So that is where I am trying to come from for my four or three years in college.”
As a young player, don’t look for any quick decisions. A sophomore or junior year decision is still several years away, if that even happens, and he ends it before his senior year.
