Updating Ohio State’s Twisting and Turning Quarterback Timeline Since Ryan Day Arrived

(This is an update of a story done back in November of 2020.)

Ohio State landed a commitment from 2024 quarterback Dylan Raiola on Monday. Raiola is a five-star prospect out of Chandler, Arizona and he is now the sixth five-star quarterback to commit to Ryan Day since Day took over as Ohio State head coach in 2019.

This is, without a doubt, the glory days of quarterback recruiting at Ohio State. Day was hired by former Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer to upgrade the quarterback position in the Ohio State program, and he certainly delivered.

It hasn’t been as easy and straight-forward as it has looked, however.

In the nearly five-and-a-half years that Day has been at Ohio State, the Buckeyes have had 13 scholarship quarterbacks either commit, sign, or transfer in. If that feels like a lot, it’s because it is.

And that’s not even mentioning the fact that Day came into a quarterback room that featured JT Barrett, Joe Burrow, and Dwayne Haskins.

This has been a winding and fascinating road for the Buckeye quarterbacks under Ryan Day. So much so that you need a timeline to keep up with everything that has happened. (And given everything that has happened, it’s probably impossible to actually have everything listed below.)

But we’re gonna try.
