COLUMBUS – Ohio State has offered just eight prospects in the 2024 class, and after earning an offer at a camp this summer, Edwin Spillman out of Lipscomb Academy (TN) is one of those eight.
The 6-foot-1 and 205-pound linebacker prospect impressed Ohio State linebackers coach Al Washington at a camp this summer and has quickly become a priority for the Buckeyes, and he can feel it.
“I do feel like they are prioritizing me the most right now just because of what they saw at camp and because what they see I can be,” Spillman told Buckeye Scoop.
This was Spillman’s first time back at Ohio State since he earned his offer at camp and the star sophomore just tried to soak it all in.
“It was great, I really just enjoyed everybody there and the people were welcoming and everything,” he said. “The coaches were super nice and it was just great to talk to them again.”
Being at Ohio State for a camp is obviously very different than being on the field watching the Buckeyes warm up in front of thousands of fans. That game-day environment was something that stood out to Spillman.
“The environment was amazing,” he said. “When I was walking all around the place people were telling me to come to Ohio State and that it’s the place to be, I just really enjoyed that. And I just really enjoyed how much football means to them.”
On top of watching Ohio State play, Saturday’s visit to Columbus also gave Spillman a chance to speak with Washington again. Due to the NCAA rules, the two haven’t been able to talk much, which made their conversations even more important.
“Back in the summer when he offered me was when we talked to each other, but once I came up for this trip we talked a little bit more.” Spillman added, “Obviously the NCAA rule is kind of restricting it so I don’t get to talk to him that much.”
As for what those conversations were about, it was all about building their relationship even more.
“He is starting to learn more about me and I’m starting to learn more about him,” Spillman said. “About his family, what he believes in, and everything like that.”
There is a long way to go in Spillman’s recruitment but with an offer in hand and a blossoming relationship with Al Washington, the Nashville native is someone Buckeye fans should know.
