COLUMBUS – Ask anyone around the Ohio State program and they will tell you that it is more difficult for Ohio prospects to earn an offer from the Buckeyes than it is for national prospects. On Saturday, Lakota East (OH) 2023 offensive lineman Austin Siereveld earned it.
The 6-foot-5 and 315-pound prospect camped with the Buckeyes twice in June. The Buckeyes coaching staff then visited this fall, and he was in Columbus for Saturday’s game against Penn State. After that visit is when Siereveld met with Buckeye head coach Ryan Day who told the in-state standout that he had an offer from the Buckeyes.
“We were in the recruiting room then they called me down to go meet with coach Day,” said Siereveld.
“It’s really exciting, I‘ve had a big smile on my face. With how many times we’ve been up there and they kept wanting me to come back was amazing too.”
As for Day’s message to Siereveld, it was all about the work he has put in to earn this offer. It’s something that Day likes to see from recruits.
“He just really liked everything I brought to the game and he said he doesn’t hand out offers to most people. You have to earn it,” said Siereveld.
The offer from Ohio State gives Siereveld four total offers, with the other three coming from Ohio, Toledo, and Michigan State. He is also hearing from Cincinnati, Kentucky and Louisville, all of whom he hopes to visit this offseason.
While the Ohio State offer is undoubtedly his highest-profile to date, do not expect Siereveld to rush into a decision. He plans to visit a handful of schools, including Ohio State again.
